6 Reasons to Stay at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa
1. A peaceful hillside retreat close to Bali’s iconic landmarks

One of the many things we appreciated about Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa was its location. Located approximately 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport, the resort offers the perfect balance between convenience and tranquillity, making it an excellent choice whether you’re visiting for a quick getaway or an extended island escape.
Just a short drive away lies Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park, where the towering statue of Lord Vishnu riding Garuda has become one of Indonesia’s most recognisable landmarks. The majestic cliffs of Uluwatu Temple, famous for its spectacular sunsets and traditional Kecak dance performances, are equally accessible. Pristine beaches such as Melasti, Pandawa, and Balangan are also nearby, while vibrant cafés, beach clubs, and hidden local gems are waiting to be discovered.

Despite its proximity to these popular attractions, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu enjoys a wonderfully elevated setting that feels peaceful from the moment you arrive. The atmosphere shifted noticeably the moment we entered the property. The sounds of traffic disappeared, replaced by gentle conversations, the rustling sound of the leaves, and the refreshing breeze that flowed effortlessly through the open-air lobby. It became our favourite place to pause before heading off to our next adventure, or simply to sit quietly and admire the endless blue stretching across the horizon.
2. Thoughtfully crafted accommodations inspired by Bali’s natural beauty

The resort features chic deluxe rooms, expansive suites, and an upscale three-bedroom Presidential Villa, offering guests a wide selection that caters to every type of traveller. Each type of accommodation is equipped with plush bedding, soothing rain showers, generous workspaces, private outdoor areas, and carefully curated amenities, allowing guests to enjoy modern comfort while remaining immersed in the beauty of Bali.

As we stepped into our spacious suite, we immediately noticed how every detail had been thoughtfully designed to celebrate Bali without feeling overly traditional. Warm timber accents, contemporary furnishings, and subtle designs all felt elegant, welcoming, and unmistakably connected to their surroundings. Large windows welcomed abundant natural light throughout the day, while our private balcony opened up to tranquil views of the lush hills beyond. We also loved the spacious shower area, complete with a large bathtub, as well as the separate restroom tucked discreetly beyond the kitchen island. More than simply providing a place to sleep, this suite is definitely a great space to unwind.
3. Embark on a culinary journey inspired by Indonesia’s rich heritage

While Renaissance Bali Uluwatu’s breathtaking views and sophisticatedly designed accommodations immediately captured our attention, it was the resort’s culinary experiences that ultimately became the highlight of our stay. Every meal felt thoughtfully crafted to celebrate Indonesia’s remarkable heritage. Not only through its flavours, but also through the passionate people behind them.
A remarkable evening at Double Ikat with Jelajah Rasa
Named after the intricate traditional weaving technique that inspires both its interiors and philosophy, Double Ikat beautifully honours Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage while presenting it through a refreshingly contemporary lens. What awaited us inside the restaurant’s intimate Kitchen Studio was far more than dinner, it was an immersive culinary journey unlike anything we had experienced before.

Known as Jelajah Rasa, which translates to “Journey of Flavours,” this exclusive nine-course omakase invites guests to place complete trust in Executive Chef Wisnu Adiyatma and his team. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of omakase, where diners leave the menu entirely in the chef’s hands, the experience instead tells the story of Indonesia’s remarkable culinary diversity, reinterpreting beloved local ingredients through refined contemporary techniques. Rather than focusing on premium ingredients alone, Chef Wisnu allows the natural beauty of Indonesia’s spices, herbs, roots and seasonal produce to take centre stage, creating a dining experience that feels deeply rooted in place.

The evening began with sambal-making which is one of Indonesia’s most beloved culinary traditions. Candra, who also accompanied us throughout the evening, kindly showed us how to make it. Once ready, it was served to our table paired with some crispy prawn crackers and chips. From there, one course after another arrived with its own story, each showcasing familiar Indonesian flavours presented in ways that felt completely unexpected. Within one bite of the first dish, we both looked at each other and smiled. Without hesitation, we agreed that they were the best oysters we had ever tasted. Perfectly fresh with delicate flavours. They set an incredibly high benchmark for the rest of the evening. Yet somehow, every course that followed continued to surprise us in completely different ways.
Throughout the dinner, Chef Wisnu personally shared the inspiration behind his creations, explaining how traditional recipes, regional ingredients, and childhood memories had influenced each dish while demonstrating the contemporary techniques used to reinterpret them. The open kitchen allowed us to observe every careful movement, transforming the entire experience into an engaging conversation between chef and guests rather than a conventional restaurant meal. Watching him work with such genuine enthusiasm and a warm smile, you could immediately tell this wasn’t simply his profession, it was something he genuinely loved.

One detail that particularly stayed with us throughout the evening was Chef Wisnu’s attentiveness. Knowing that Indonesian cuisine often embraces bold spices, he took the time to thoughtfully adjust several of my courses so I could fully enjoy the experience without the heat. It wasn’t something we had requested in advance, nor was it treated as an inconvenience. Instead, every dish arrived perfectly balanced, preserving its intended flavours while accommodating my preference for milder food.

Complementing each course was a thoughtfully curated beverage pairing designed to enhance the progression of flavours throughout the evening. Just as the dishes celebrated Indonesia’s biodiversity, the beverages introduced another layer of discovery, creating a harmonious balance that elevated the experience from start to finish.

More than just exceptional food, this experience offered a deeper appreciation for Indonesia’s remarkable culinary heritage, leaving us with a newfound admiration for the stories, traditions, and craftsmanship behind every flavour. For anyone visiting Renaissance Bali Uluwatu, this is an experience we wholeheartedly recommend reserving in advance.
Mornings begin beautifully at Clay Craft Restaurant

After such an unforgettable evening at Double Ikat, the next morning welcomed us at a much gentler pace. As sunlight streamed across the resort and the surrounding hills slowly came to life, we made our way to Clay Craft Restaurant, which is widely regarded as one of the island’s best-loved breakfast destinations. The restaurant offers an impressive selection of international favourites alongside Indonesian classics like babi guling. There are also delicious crepes, freshly baked pastries, made-to-order egg stations, refreshing tropical fruits, and nourishing options that cater to every palate.
Additionally, guests may opt to dine either indoors where you can easily return for another helping of your favourite dishes, or the alfresco area where you can bask in the beauty of nature while peacefully enjoying your meal. Here, breakfast is the perfect start to another day of discovery.
Toast to sunset at R Bar
One of the highlights of our afternoons was enjoying the resort’s beautifully presented afternoon tea at R Bar, the resort’s stylish lobby lounge overlooking the spectacular view. The thoughtfully curated selection of savoury bites and delicate sweet treats complemented each other exquisitely with the refreshing beverages, making it an experience we happily lingered over while taking in the scenery.

As the sky’s hue started to change, it was also time for another wonderful experience at R Bar. The resort’s signature Punch Bowl Ritual, one of Renaissance Hotels’ longstanding traditions inspired by the neighbourhood’s local culture, unfolded while watching soft golden light gradually illuminate the surrounding cliffs.
Every dining venue at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu had offered something entirely different. Double Ikat celebrated Indonesia’s extraordinary culinary heritage through storytelling and craftsmanship. Clay Craft transformed breakfast into a creative and leisurely experience, while R Bar became our favourite place to unwind as each day drew to a close. Together, they reflected the resort’s philosophy beautifully. Not simply feeding its guests, but inspiring them to discover Bali through every flavour, every conversation and every unforgettable moment shared around the table.
4. Discover your creative side at Clay Craft Pottery Studio

One of the things that makes Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa truly stand out is that the experiences extend far beyond its beautiful accommodations and exceptional dining. The pottery workshop at Clay Craft Pottery Studio definitely deserves special appreciation. Having never tried pottery before, we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but it quickly became one of the most rewarding activities of our stay. Guided patiently by our friendly instructor, we learned how to shape raw clay using traditional techniques before carefully moulding our own creations by hand. Once the pieces had been dried, we painted and personalised each one, transforming them into meaningful keepsakes. What had begun as an ordinary block of clay slowly transformed into mugs, a bowl, and a decorative piece that reflected each person’s own creativity.
What we loved most was how accessible the workshop felt. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone with previous experience, the instructors create a welcoming environment that allows everyone to enjoy the creative process at their own pace. It wasn’t about crafting something perfect, it was about embracing the joy of creating something with your own hands while discovering another aspect of Balinese artistry. In a world where holidays often revolve around ticking destinations off a list, this experience encouraged us to slow down and simply enjoy the moment. The process itself became the reward.
5. Two stunning pools for every mood

Of course, no stay at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu would be complete without setting aside time to simply relax and enjoy the resort itself. Here, there are two distinctive swimming pool experiences, each inviting guests to unwind in its own unique way. The spectacular Infinity Pool immediately draws your attention with sweeping views across the surrounding landscape and glimpses of the Indian Ocean in the distance. Floating peacefully in the cool water while soft clouds drifted overhead, it almost felt as though time had paused. Occasionally, other couples and families enjoying their holiday would join in, but for the most part, the atmosphere remained calm.
For those seeking something a little quieter, the resort’s Jungle Pool offers a completely different ambience. Nestled amongst lush tropical greenery, this tranquil oasis feels wonderfully secluded, creating an intimate setting. It feels like a hidden sanctuary within the resort itself.

This lower pool area also features a stylish pool bar alongside the elegant Celebration Pavilion, a versatile venue designed for intimate wedding solemnization, private dinners, and special celebrations. It is a modern glass wedding chapel surrounded by tropical landscaping and overlooking the resort’s picturesque grounds. With this, it’s easy to imagine why so many couples choose this beautiful setting to celebrate life’s most memorable occasions.
We loved how each pool offered its own personality, allowing guests to choose whichever best suited their mood. One vibrant and expansive, the other peaceful and restorative.
6. Relax, recharge, and stay active

Beyond relaxing at the resort’s pool areas, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu also offers a tranquil wellness sanctuary where rejuvenation takes centre stage. Hidden away from the livelier areas of the resort, The Spa welcomes guests with a calming atmosphere. In addition to soft lighting, soothing aromas, and peaceful interiors, welcome drinks and light snacks are also offered, creating a sense of indulgence long before your treatment even begins.
The spa features eight serene treatment rooms, including cosy couples’ suites, allowing guests to enjoy massages and holistic therapies in complete privacy. There are also steam rooms, saunas, and dedicated relaxation areas where guests can continue unwinding after their treatments. A full range of beauty and salon services is also available, perfect for those preparing for a special celebration or simply indulging in a little extra pampering during their holiday.

For those looking to begin the day on a more mindful note, the resort also offers morning yoga sessions, allowing you to greet the day surrounded by fresh ocean air and peaceful tropical surroundings. Meanwhile, those wishing to maintain their fitness routine while travelling will appreciate the resort’s 24-hour fitness centre, fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the spectacular Bali coastline.

Guests hoping to venture beyond the resort can also join one of Renaissance Bali Uluwatu’s guided bike tours, providing another wonderful way to discover the surrounding neighbourhood. Rather than exploring from behind the windows of a car, cycling through the area allows guests to experience a quieter side of Uluwatu, passing local villages, scenic roads and hidden corners that many visitors might otherwise overlook. It perfectly reflects the Renaissance philosophy of discovering each destination through authentic neighbourhood experiences instead of following the usual tourist itinerary.
It is this thoughtful attention to every detail, whether active or restorative, that makes Renaissance Bali Uluwatu feel so complete.
Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, planning a romantic escape, travelling with family or simply looking to experience Bali from a fresh perspective, this resort offers far more than a place to stay, it is a place that inspires discovery.
