Experience Authentic Balinese Luxury at Amarterra Villas Resort Bali Nusa Dua, Autograph Collection
While many visitors associate Bali with rice terraces in Ubud, beach clubs in Seminyak, and Uluwatu for dramatic cliff views, Nusa Dua offers a completely different side of the island. Regarded as Bali’s premier luxury resort enclave, this coastal destination is characterised by beautifully landscaped boulevards, pristine beaches, world-class resorts, and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Perfectly complementing this tranquil setting is Amarterra Villas Resort Bali Nusa Dua, Autograph Collection, a boutique retreat that beautifully blends authentic Balinese heritage with contemporary luxury. Inspired by the charm of a traditional Balinese village, the resort features just 42 private pool villas nestled amongst lush tropical gardens, creating an intimate sanctuary where privacy, culture, and heartfelt hospitality come together seamlessly. Read on as we share the highlights of our three-day stay and discover why Amarterra is one of Nusa Dua’s most charming private villa retreats.
7 Reasons to stay in Amarterra Villas Resort Bali Nusa Dua, Autograph Collection
1. A peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Nusa Dua

One of the things we appreciated most about Amarterra Villas Resort Bali Nusa Dua, Autograph Collection was its location. Nestled within the exclusive Nusa Dua enclave, the resort offers a peaceful escape while remaining conveniently close to many of Bali’s popular attractions such as Waterblow, Bali Collection, Museum Pasifika, and open-to-the-public beaches like Mengiat Beach and Geger Beach. Ngurah Rai International Airport is also just around 20 minutes away, making arrivals and departures refreshingly stress-free.Â

As soon as we arrived, we were in awe of the resort’s beauty and the serene atmosphere. Oktavia, a soft-spoken lady, welcomed us and guided us through a traditional Balinese purifying ritual using a ceremonial basket of fresh flowers, incense stick, holy water, and a tri-colored Tri Datu bracelet. Once completed, we proceeded with the check-in process, and thereafter, Ardi kindly escorted us to our villa.Â
2. Beautiful Balinese architecture meets modern villa luxury

Amarterra beautifully combines local architecture with contemporary comforts, creating an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to its surroundings. Lush tropical gardens, tranquil water features, and stone pathways weave throughout the resort, not only making every stroll feel wonderfully serene, but also well representing the meaning of its name: “Amarta,” means water, and “Terra,” means earth.Â
Our home for the stay was the Ixora One-Bedroom Villa with Private Pool, which was beyond beautiful. Stepping through the villa gates reveals an expansive outdoor living space centred around a private swimming pool. Comfortable lounge seating, cosy sunbeds, and an outdoor dining table make it easy to spend hours simply enjoying the tropical surroundings.
Inside, the villa continues the same sense of understated luxury. The plush king-sized bed promises restful nights, while a dedicated work desk tucked beside the dressing area provides a practical corner for those needing to stay connected. The spacious bathroom is equally impressive, featuring a large Jacuzzi bathtub, separate shower and toilet areas, as well as an outdoor rain shower that lets you enjoy nature in complete privacy.
As I was celebrating my birthday during our stay, the team surprised us with thoughtful bed decorations prepared before our arrival, followed by a beautifully presented birthday cake. These heartfelt gestures made the celebration all the more memorable.
3. Explore Nusa Dua on two wheels

In addition to its ideal location, the resort’s complimentary bicycle rental not only made exploring the neighborhood more convenient but also allowed us to notice the little details we might have missed while riding in a fast car. In the afternoon, we enjoyed cycling around the resort’s surroundings at a leisurely pace before dinner. It is a gentle reminder that sometimes the best way to experience a destination is simply by slowing down.

The following day, we borrowed a bike again but this time, ready to explore further. We cycled through Nusa Dua’s beautifully landscaped streets and neighboring luxury resorts until we reached The Bay Bali. Following the scenic coastal paths, we eventually arrived at Water Blow, where waves crashed dramatically against the rugged limestone cliffs. Discovering places on our own was indeed rewarding. As simple as the bicycle seemed, it proved to be one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the area before retreating to the privacy of our villa.
4. Savour Local and International Flavours at Maja Restaurant

Maja Restaurant, the resort’s signature dining destination, showcases a thoughtfully curated menu featuring authentic Indonesian favourites alongside Asian and Western classics, making it easy to satisfy different cravings throughout your stay.
On our first evening, we enjoyed a delightful three-course dinner. We began with comforting mushroom soup and crispy chicken karaage before moving on to hearty mains of nasi goreng and creamy carbonara. To end the meal, we indulged in pisang goreng alongside refreshing fresh fruits with lime, a simple yet satisfying finish.
Breakfast is also served at Maja Restaurant each morning. Rather than a traditional buffet, guests enjoy a semi-buffet experience with freshly baked pastries, tropical fruits, juices, cereals, and salads available for self-service, while hot dishes are prepared Ă la minute from the Ă la carte menu. From local Indonesian favourites to sandwiches and egg dishes, it offers a much more relaxed and personalised breakfast experience.
5. Relaxed Beachfront Dining at Amarterra by the Bay

For a completely different atmosphere, make time to visit Amarterra by the Bay, the resort’s beach club located along Nusa Dua Beach. Complimentary shuttle service is available from the resort, although it’s worth checking the departure schedule beforehand to plan your visit.
Trading tropical gardens for sea breezes and ocean views, this casual beachfront venue is perfect for a laid-back lunch or sunset drinks. During our visit, we ordered the chicken burger and crispy fish fingers, pairing them with an ice-cold Bintang beer and a refreshing lime cocktail. The relaxed ambience made it an enjoyable change of pace and a lovely spot to simply soak in Bali’s coastal charm.
6. Rejuvenate and recharge at Amarta Spa

No villa escape feels complete without a spa treatment, and Amarta Spa provided exactly the tranquil retreat we were hoping for. Inspired by ancient Hindu and Buddhist philosophies centred around harmony and wellbeing, the spa offers a peaceful sanctuary where guests can truly slow down.
Our experience began with a welcome drink before the 60-minute massage and concluded with another soothing cup of herbal tea afterwards. One of our favourite touches came at the very end, when we were invited to draw a blessing from a small affirmation pot. I received “Enlightenment,” while my partner picked “Miracle.” It was a simple but unforgettable experience, leaving us with a meaningful keepsake beyond the massage itself.
7. Immerse yourself in Balinese culture

Luxury at Amarterra extends beyond its beautiful villas as the resort also offers thoughtful opportunities to experience Bali’s rich cultural heritage. As part of my birthday celebration, the team had extended a special invitation for us to join a Balinese Blessing Ritual, led by the resident priest and his wife, Mr & Mrs Mangku Warsa. Rather than simply observing the ceremony, we were guided through each step and its significance, learning the meaning behind the offerings, prayers, and traditional practices. This thoughtful explanation transformed the ritual from a beautiful cultural performance into a genuinely meaningful experience that deepened our appreciation of Balinese traditions.
It perfectly reflects Amarterra’s philosophy of creating stays that are not only luxurious but also deeply rooted in the island’s culture and spirituality.
For couples, families, and groups of travellers seeking a quieter side of Bali without sacrificing convenience, Amarterra Villas Resort Bali Nusa Dua, Autograph Collection strikes a wonderful balance. Through its village-inspired architecture, meaningful cultural traditions, warm Balinese hospitality, and peaceful private villas, it gently encourages guests to experience Bali not by rushing from one attraction to another, but by slowing down and appreciating the island’s quieter moments. For us, that ultimately became the greatest luxury of all.
