Let the soothing gamelan tunes be your background as we take you through 10 of the best things you can do on your honeymoon in Ubud Bali.
Where to Stay in Ubud Bali
Chapung Sebali
A magical and luxurious boutique resort along the hills of Ubud Bali, Chapung Sebali is famed as one of Bali’s most unique hotels. Its eclectic design fuses together traditional Indonesian and contemporary Scandinavian architecture, creating an idyllic haven amid the lush wilderness and rice fields of Ubud.
We originally planned to stay in one of the deluxe suites during our trip, but since they were all fully booked, we had the privilege to stay in a one-bedroom villa instead. The villa was delightfully spacious. It had views of the alluring garden and windows that open up to a wonderful view of the rice paddies. We also enjoyed the villa’s private pool, a perfect place to chill after a fun day out.

What to Do in Ubud Bali
1. Bask in the jungle spirit at the Jungle Fish Pool Bar
One of the facilities for Chapung Sebali residents, the Jungle Fish Pool Bar was a delight to be at. The open-air, split-level restaurant serves a mouthwatering Asian and International menu and has a swim-up pool bar surrounded by natural rainforest. Jungle Fish is also open for non-residents, but you don’t have to worry about finding a space as there are various seating options. There are exclusive areas for residents where you can comfortably listen to music and sip cocktails while basking in the view of the jungle.

The Upper Deck
The Upper Deck is Chapung Sebali’s signature fine dining experience that provides a dreamy setup for a romantic honeymoon dinner. On top of the jungle views that make the spot so magical, the food here is truly a delight as well. We had baked eggplant as an appetizer, lobster as our seafood for the day, and the rib-eye steak for the main course. These are just a few of their top-notch creative dishes that you can try along with their impressive wine selection.

2. Catch the sunrise at The Gates of Heaven
Taking 2 hours by car, Ubud Bali is the ideal point of departure to the Gates of Heaven. The Hindu structure is often flocked by visitors wanting to take Instagram-worthy photos. With Mount Agung as the backdrop, it almost seems like you can touch the clouds if you reach out. The gate also provides an absolutely breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. If you head out early enough, you can avoid the crowd and be blessed with a stunning sunrise against Mount Agung.
The Gates of Heaven is part of Pura Lempuyang Temple, one of the oldest and holiest temples in Ubud Bali. The gate represents the border between the outside world and the sacred place. As a sign of respect, remember to dress appropriately when visiting. Wear a sarong and make sure that knees and shoulders are not visible.

3. Breathe in the early morning air at Tirta Gangga and Ujung Water Palace
Two other major attractions in Eastern Bali are Tirta Gangga Royal Water Garden and Taman Ujung Water Palace. The sister sites are built by the last King of Karangasem and are both maintained by the royal family.
Perched on the south-eastern slope of Bali’s highest mountain, Mount Agung, the Tirta Gangga royal water garden features 1.2 hectares of water, plants and sculptures. The first thing you will see upon entering is the Mahabharata pond, where rows of Pandawa and Kurawa figures are neatly arranged. Behind the first pond is a 10-metre-high fountain surrounded by 8 sculptures representing the Nawa Sanga.
The springs at the higher ground of the site are the source of what locals consider as holy water. It is used for religious ceremonies while also being used to supply drinking water to Amlapura. At the lower level, the water goes into two clear pools. One pool is open for visitors to swim in while the other is filled with golden carp and other large fish.

7. Express gratitude to the holy water of Tirta Empul and Pura Mengening
Tirta Empul, also known as the “holy spring temple,” got its name from the water source inside the compound. Legends say that the holy spring was the setting of a traditional tale about good and evil. The temple was then built around it in the 10th century and is now a national cultural heritage site.
The highlight of Tirta Empul is a pair of bathing pools lined with over a dozen fountains spouting water from the holy spring. Pilgrims seeking spiritual purification bathe themselves under each of these fountains.
Tirta Empul Temple
Location: Jalan Tirta, Manukaya, Tampaksiring, Gianyar, Bali 80552, Indonesia
Opening Hours: Daily 9:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m
Pura Mengening is another temple where people can perform purification rituals using holy spring water. Although located in the same area and just off the road to Tirta Empul, Pura Mengening is not as frequented by tourists. Local worshippers and pilgrims are the only ones who usually come to the site to cleanse, pray, and collect holy water for ceremonies. This makes the temple an ideal location if you want a quieter and more serene spiritual experience.
Observing proper attire is important when visiting any temple in Bali. While Tirta Empul has sarongs you can rent, it might be difficult to find one at Mengening. Pack your own sarong along with a canangsari (offering placed on a small palm basket) and incense in case you wish to take a dip in the purification pool.

At the top, you will be greeted with an amazing 360 panoramic view of the entire town. There are also small shops along the ridge that you can explore and buy art from.

Chapung Spa provides a range of treatments that will pamper you from head to toe. A restaurant with a magnificent view? Count us in! Montana Del Cafe is a restaurant with a panoramic view of Kintamani. They offer various ranges of food and beverages from international cuisine and local Indonesian food. What we like about this cafe is it also caters to vegans thus offering vegan options. Moreover, Montana Del Cafe is open every day.
As a sucker for mountain scenic views and coffee, this is an excellent cafe to sip my favourite cup of coffee and watch as the sun sets. Akasa Kintamani Coffee & Bakery offers you the best view of Mount Batur located on the island of Bali. They have outdoor sitting styled with a mix of modern and classic Indonesian architecture.
