Inspired by nature and powered by light, the Beko RDNT401E50VZK Top Freezer Fridge with Harvest Fresh introduces a whole new way to keep our fruits and veggies fresh all the time. As we all know, plants need both sunlight and darkness for their optimal growth. Moreover, the latest HarvestFresh™ technology provides a natural living environment for your plant-based food by mimicking the natural daylight cycle. Wine Cooler
For wine connoisseurs, the storage conditions of their cherished bottles play a pivotal role in the quality and taste of their wines. This is where a wine cooler emerges as an essential appliance. Let’s delve into why wine enthusiasts should consider adding a wine cooler to their collection.
One of the primary reasons to invest in a wine cooler is the preservation of flavor and aroma. Wine is a complex and delicate beverage, with its flavor and aroma evolving over time. However, temperature fluctuations can have a detrimental impact, potentially leading to premature aging or even spoilage. A wine cooler solves this problem by providing a stable and controlled environment. It ensures that your wines age gracefully while preserving their intended flavors and bouquets, allowing you to enjoy them at their best.
Another crucial benefit of wine coolers is precise temperature control. Unlike regular refrigerators, which may not offer the precise temperature range needed for wine storage, wine coolers are purpose-built for this task. They typically maintain a consistent temperature, usually between 45°F to 65°F (7°C to 18°C). This range allows you to store both reds and whites at their ideal serving temperatures, ensuring that each glass you pour is a true delight.

FAQs – Buying a Fridge in Singapore
How much does a fridge cost?
The cost of a fridge in Singapore can vary significantly depending on the brand, type, and features you’re looking for. Generally, you can find affordable options starting from around SGD 400 to SGD 800 for basic models. Mid-range fridges with more features typically range from SGD 800 to SGD 2,000. High-end and premium models can go beyond SGD 2,000, especially if they come with advanced technology and larger capacities. It’s essential to set a budget and consider your specific needs when choosing a fridge within your price range.
What are the things I need to consider when buying a fridge in Singapore?
When purchasing a fridge in Singapore, several factors should be taken into account to ensure you make the right choice for your needs:
- Size and Capacity: Determine the available space in your kitchen and the amount of storage you require. Fridge sizes are often measured in liters or cubic feet, so be sure to pick one that fits your kitchen layout.
- Type: Choose between top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side, French door, or mini fridges based on your preferences and space availability.
- Energy Efficiency: Look for the Energy Label (MELS label) and opt for a fridge with a higher energy efficiency rating (more ticks) to save on energy bills.
- Features: Consider features like adjustable shelves, humidity control, water dispensers, ice makers, and smart technology based on your convenience and usage requirements.
- Brand and Reliability: Research reputable brands known for durable and reliable appliances. Customer reviews and expert opinions can help guide your decision.
- Budget: Set a budget range before shopping and stick to it. Consider both the initial purchase price and long-term operating costs.
- Warranty: Check the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure you have coverage in case of any issues or defects.
- Delivery and Installation: Factor in the cost of delivery and installation, as some fridges may require professional installation.
However, I will also go through them in detail below under the section how do I choose which fridge to buy?
How Do I Choose Which Fridge to Buy?
1. Measuring Space
The first step is to measure the space in your kitchen that is dedicated to your fridge. This is even more important if you are buying a condominium or apartment that already comes with a pre-allocated space. While it is okay to buy something smaller (though it might look a bit awkward with too much space around the edges), buying something too big will result in it not being able to fit. Make sure to leave 50mm of space around the back and sides for the heat to dissipate.
Another thing to note is to measure your doorway. Do make sure that your refrigerator can fit through the door into your kitchen. That being said, the delivery people usually can dismantle the door of the refrigerator to fit through the door and reassemble it back when in the kitchen.
2. Storage Size / Capacity
The next point to consider is storage size. For storage size, look out for the litre capacity the fridge has.
Depending on the size of your household, you want to ensure that there is enough space to serve your family. Do also consider your lifestyle i.e. how often you grocery shop and cook. If you prefer to eat out, a smaller refrigerator will work. If you often host dinners like Matt and I do, opt for a bigger fridge.
For a household with two people, a capacity of 300 litres will work. For an average family of four, get a model that is above 400 litres.
3. Door configuration
Next up on the list is door configuration. Modern fridges in Singapore also come in many different shapes and sizes. Each style has its own strengths and weaknesses, of which I will go through below. You will want to get one that suits your lifestyle and needs.
4. Energy Efficiency
Make sure to buy fridges in Singapore that are energy efficient. The last thing you want is for your refrigerator to bump up your electrical bill and you get a whopping sum to pay off each month. Also, it’s easy to find energy-efficient fridges in Singapore: just look for the energy label like the one above!
Get a fridge with at least 2 to 3 ticks. It can pay off to spend more for a refrigerator with one more tick, as the bill savings can offset the higher cost you pay for the fridge at the start. For example, if an extra tick allows you to save $10 per month on electricity, that will work up to $120 per year, and $1,200 for 10 years or more, which is the life expectancy of a good refrigerator in Singapore.
You will also be using lesser energy which reduces your carbon footprint! You can find more information here and here.
5. Features
The modern refrigerators of today have plenty of new features. Some brands also have their own patented technology that can improve your refrigerator performance i.e. Samsung’s Twin Cooling Plus. Whether practical or fancy, it is key to figure out which features are essential to you. Here are some of the add-on features that we’ve seen:
- Ice/water dispenser: this one can also be particularly useful, especially if you fancy that ice-cold drink after a long day at work. Check out Samsung RS64R5304B4/SS for this function.
- Quick chill: Need something to chill quickly? This function also allows you to prep for a party just hours in advance by quickly chilling your drinks, or if you are making that delicious no-bake tiramisu of yours. Check out Samsung RT46K237DX for this function.
- Convertible compartments: This allows you to make your fridge more flexible by converting your freezer to a chiller if needed.
- Touch screens with digital smarts: Smart TVs are now the norm, and soon our refrigerators will all turn smart too.
Which is the best fridge brand?
The well-known brands for fridges in Singapore are:
- Popular fridge brands: Samsung, LG
- Other good refrigerator brands: Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Sharp, Electrolux
- If you are on a budget, cheaper brands include Europace, PowerPac, Midea
- If budget is not a consideration, Bosch is a premium brand
My personal favourite brands are Samsung and LG. We got a Samsung SpaceMax 647L Side-by-Side fridge for our home. Bosch is also a good brand, but it is slightly pricer.
Which is the best place to buy a fridge in Singapore?
You used to only be able to buy fridges in Singapore from stores, but now you can purchase them online for the ultimate convenience and enjoy discounted prices! Lazada and Shopee are my go-to for shopping for electronics. If you prefer to see the refrigerator in person, you can always pop by any of these consumer electronic stores near you to check it out before purchasing it online.
