Despite being a pure takeaway stall, Istanblue Mezze & Grill House has taken the trouble to handmake everything on-site, from rolling and baking their dough, tortillas, and pita bread, to marinating and slow grilling their chicken and beef meats. On the other hand, the kebabs and pita bread at Istanblue Mezze & Grill House are excellent, with soft, chewy, fluffy dough. Generously stuffed with marinated meat and fresh vegetables, each bite packs flavour. Portions are decently sized for one person, and prices are the same as elsewhere, budget about $6 per person for one item. 

5. Alati Divine Greek Cuisine

The good news is that Alati, which employs Greek chefs, provides guests with a convenient way to taste Greek cuisine and wine without having to drive too far. The crusty bread in the basket had a lovely chewy texture and was baked in-house. For appetisers, how about a hearty serving of Horiatiki, a Greek salad? Cucumber, tomatoes, red onions, pitted olives, bell peppers, and a complete feta cheese square topped with capers. If you like fish, the Aegean Sea’s Salt-baked Milokopi is a must-try. Zorba, The Greek Taverna is the perfect spot to dine into scrumptious, humble Greek bites, situated along the scenic riverbank at Clarke Quay. Some of the Greek food favourites at Zorba the Greek that day starting with a Greek mousakka. A classic Greek appetiser, Zorba serves up to six different homemade dips: tzatziki salad dip (greek cucumber yoghurt sauce), hummus dip, tirokafteri dip (spicy sheep feta cheese spread with fresh chillies), taramosalata dip (a cured cod roe sauce with olive oil and lemon juice), paprika dip, and fava dip. Their other two dishes were seafood items. The kalamari was the best dish of the day with thick juicy pieces of squid and also the grilled sea bream. Overall, the best part at Zorba The Greek Taverna in Clarke Quay was the location. The view of the Singapore River and the boats make a great backdrop for dinner.

8. Winestone

Intimate wine bar with Mediterranean delights

Winestone, a Greek restaurant with a strong focus on its wine collection, is also available for retail purchase. Winestone’s dining area is flooded with plenty of natural light as well as ambient lighting, that’ll set the tone for intimate dinners, business gatherings, and group catch-ups. Winestone encourages its patrons to wine down and takes their time to savour the food and drinks offered. Which is how they came up with the Winestone Express Platter For 1 ($22), meant to enjoy while waiting for that one friend who’s always running a little late. It comes with a selection of cheeses (Brie de Meaux and Tomme de Savoie Fermière), cold cuts (Jamon Iberico de Cebo and Spanish Chorizo), focaccia bread as well as a glass of house pour red or white wine. This is a Greek and Mediterranean style deli, serving up dishes such as Greek Salad with Feta Cheese ($22), Calamari ($22), Grilled Octopus ($28), Burrata ($4), and a selection of pasta and pizzas. The Grilled Octopus ($28) which though looked small for its price, had an incredibly chewy texture, flavourful and well-grilled. The grilling infused some of the herb flavours into the meat. The roasted vegetables are also enjoyable as the grilled octopus. All of their meals are created with the highest-quality and freshest ingredients available, with many coming from all over Europe. Gluten-free and vegan alternatives are also available upon request if needed.
