10 Best Luxury Resort Villas in Malaysia

1. Three-Bedroom Beach Residence, Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas

Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas - Best Luxury Resort Villas in Malaysia

Deemed as one of Malaysia’s finest resorts, the dazzling Anantara Desaru Coast Resorts & Villas is the perfect destination for an ultimate coastal getaway. Choose from a selection of stylish, airy rooms and villas nestled in lush tropical gardens – all of which offer luxury like no other. For families or large groups travelling together, we recommend the resort’s Three-Bedroom Beach Residence, a spacious seaside abode featuring an infusion of traditional Malaysian design in such a serenely comfortable space. And for the utmost relaxation, staying at this villa also means that you will have your very own butler attending to your every need.

The ultimate family destination

This luxurious villa from Anantara boasts its own private infinity pool facing the ocean, as well as direct access to the beach, so you have the option where you will get that much awaited refreshing dip. On top of that, the resort also has two large pools for you to swim in – one at the beachfront and one they call the lagoon. Our entire family had a blast during our visit, especially our little baby Ally, who pointed to the water all the time for some splash and play. Parents, do not worry, all the pools here have plenty of shallow water spots that are highly suitable for babies, so just let your kids have fun and take gorgeous photos!

Anantara Desaru Coast Resorts & Villas is a luxurious resort for all ages. Aside from the pools, they also have a Layang Layang Kids Club for the little ones, a Luncuk Ombak Teens Club for the tweens and teens, complete with table tennis inside, and a multitude of bars and restaurants for the much older ones. We actually brought both our families on our recent visit to the resort!

Our entire family on the golden shores of Malaysia

For more active family members, the resort also has designated spots for yoga, cycling (bicycles are free!), golf, a 24-hour fitness club,  and of course – a golden beach stretch for some fun water activities. Beach volleyball, anyone?

Relaxing amenities

For most of us, the best way to wind down after such a long day is with a drink at hand. Luckily, Anantara has two really luxe bars, where you can enjoy extraordinary cocktails and mocktails with a spectacular view. Head over to Infinity Bar if you wish to drink cocktails by the beachfront infinity pool, while Observatory Bar is perfect if you want to get a lovely 360-view of the resort at sundown. The Golden Lands (their own version of gin and tonic which my dad really loved), Sea of Pineapples (super IG-worthy cocktail!), and Cartel (definitely one of the best ones I have ever tasted) from Infinity Bar were our top favourites, though most of their signature cocktails taste pretty amazing. Knock yourself out if you are a cocktail lover!

Chilling by the pool with a cocktail

If cocktails are not your cup of tea, Anantara Desaru Coast also has an indulgent spa where you can seek mind-body balance or revitalise after a long day. The spa offers plenty of signature treatments drawn from Thai and Malay wellness wisdom and even has couples’ suites so you can bring your partner along for a serene experience. Then, at night, relax even further with a blockbuster movie from the resort’s very own Cinema Under The Stars, though note that it is available on selected days only.

Culinary indulgences from all over the world

As much as we enjoyed the cocktails, one of the main highlights of staying at Anantara is its incredible dining options. We had such a gastronomic feast during our visit! We highly recommend the Kerabu Mangga Muda (probably the best mango salad I have ever eaten!) and Goong Sarong as starters from Turmeric Restaurant. Their Ikan Bakar that melts in your mouth, mildly spicy Massaman Kea, and Char Kway Teow were all great as main courses. Though, the latter was probably the best as we have ordered it for 3 days straight – a true testament to its lovely taste and quality.

Some of the mouthwatering dishes we have tried from the resort

If you are looking to splurge, then you should definitely dine at Sea.Fire.Salt which we highly, highly recommend, Anantara’s very own signature steak and seafood restaurant. We ordered a Chilled Seafood Tower consisting of premium oysters, lobsters, prawns, crabs, etc. – all freshly caught and grilled to perfection. I even sucked on some of their shells afterwards, which I never did before. The 1.2kg Australian Beef Tomahawk, served with 6 sides and sauces, was also very delicious and great for family sharing. To end the night on a sweet note, you may also try the restaurant’s Mont Blanc and Hot Chocolate Fondant.

Overall, Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas delivered such an amazing stay. Everyone in our family loved the excellent service, ambience, luxurious suites and villas, delicious food and all the fun activities we have experienced. What’s even better is that the resort’s just a 1.5 hour drive from Singapore, and even shorter if you ride a ferry!  Be sure to check it out for yourselves!

3. Rainforest Pool Villa,The Datai Langkawi

Rainforest Pool Villa,The Datai Langkawi Best Luxury Resort Villas Malaysia

Situated in the heart of a tropical rainforest, The Datai Langkawi allows guests to truly escape nature. This 5-star luxury resort offers plenty of rooms, each with a different view, but what we are recommending is the Rainforest Pool Villa. The said villa is raised on stilts and is approximately 175 square metres in size, with a 10-metre pool by an extended deck and an outdoor living area with sun loungers. And with the completely luxurious amenities (i.e., king-sized bed dressed in Egyptian cotton, minibar, etc.) on the inside, the villa is actually ideal for a couple of honeymooners.

A bit of forewarning, though: the resort is set in a 10 million-year-old rainforest. So, do not be surprised if you spot some Dusky langurs, Tokay geckos and Sunda colugos during your stay. Aside from that, the resort also boasts a private footpath leading to Datai Bay’s idyllic white-sand beach, where you can go sailing onboard the Nasa Pelangi or just chill out with an incredible view while sipping signature cocktails.

7. Kinabalu Villa, Gaya Island Resort

Kinabalu Villa, Gaya Island Resort

Kota Kinabalu, being the small town that it is, boasts plenty of luxury resorts for you to stay in. One that stands out is the Gaya Island Resort, a natural sanctuary nestled in the hillside of an ancient rainforest. It is also set within a marine park, so there is a turtle sanctuary near the resort on top of all the wildlife animals that you will likely see while walking around the resort’s nature trail. And of course, the majestic Mount Kinabalu will always be the best part of visiting the island. For that very reason, we highly suggest staying at a Kinabalu Villa, which provides the best views in the entire resort. The silhouette of Mount Kinabalu can be easily seen on a clear day, while the mesmerising view of the South China Sea stretches below.
