Customized Engagement Rings by JannPaul
[Advertorial] Want a customized engagement ring perfect for your proposal? Read on…Â
Every proposal journey starts with the search of a ring. It’s no easy feat, but with Google in my pocket, I embarked on the search for the perfect engagement ring. If you need some help on how to choose your engagement ring, do check Our Guide to Buying an Engagement Ring for your Proposal. Through both friends and the web, my research churned up quite a number of results. There are many jewellers in Singapore, but one brand that stood out was JannPaul. With my close friend’s recommendation along with all the buzz on forums and social media, I had to check them out.
Insider Tip!
Before we dive into my experience with JannPaul, here is an insider tip for your engagement ring shopping! You will find a significant pricing difference between the commercial jewellers that you find in shopping malls (i.e. Goldheart, Soo Kee) and private jewellers (i.e. JannPaul, Canary). For the exact diamond specifications, the ones in the commercial chains can easily be 1.5 – 2 times more. It’s also common for commercial stores to mark up so that they can easily offer you a discount later on. The commercial jewellers also have a rather limited range of designs to choose from, which deterred me as I wanted a ring which was more unique. About JannPaul
Did you know that JannPaul is a Singapore homegrown brand? Their speciality in super ideal cut diamonds with perfect hearts & arrows are frequently raved about. Â
The cut and facets of the diamond is what makes the diamond sparkle most. JannPaul’s super ideal cut means that the diamond is cut in such a way that every facet is placed at an angle to create full light return, ensuring a sparkle that will make all others envious of your stone. Sharing is Caring
What impressed me most about JannPaul was the educational experience provided. I first met up with Rei, who took me through all the diamond know-how, such as the 4Cs (cut, colour, clarity and carat size) as well as the 3 different scopes we can use to check out the diamond’s light leakages and more. Read more about the 4Cs in our guide here. If you are interested in learning more about diamonds before you purchase them (from anywhere), I strongly suggest for you to schedule an appointment with JannPaul first.
Feeling at Home
At JannPaul, I must say the service provided by Rei and later on, Casey, was extremely dedicated and non-obligatory. My experience with other jewelers was extremely focused on the sale (and sometimes even hard selling), which feels rather pushy. But with JannPaul, they were more focused on sharing their knowledge about diamonds and the industry, which instead made the setting comfortable, friendly and extremely enjoyable.
Want something uniquely yours?
I never knew customization would come at such an affordable price. Customization is a premium service provided by commercial jewellers, and with each revision costs you extra precious dollars. Conversely at JannPaul, they have made customization their specialty, which I must say is a very smart move. Which girl would not want her own one-of-her-kind gem? But guess what? At JannPaul, they do not charge extra for their customization services and revisions. Their technology of 3D Rendering and crafting pieces from scratch are all done in-house, which allows them to give multiple revisions and excellent quality control. Check out the 3D render of our diamond ring below!
I had to bring Joce along this time round. After battling with myself on whether I should let her in on this process or keep it a total surprise, I was pretty sure the Joce I know would love to choose the ring she would be wearing for a lifetime!
How to start?
Meeting up with Casey with like taking a trip to customization lane. Who knew that you could do so much customization to an intricate ring?
1. Choose your Ring Setting – 18K White Gold or Platinum?
On both my visits, Rei and Casey showed me their tray of ring settings to choose from. That is the starting point of customization. I bet they had plenty more in their closet but they probably didn’t want to overwhelm me with choices. You can choose it to your setting to be made of 18K white (or rose) gold or platinum. Though both have considerable durability for a ring, platinum costs 50% more than 18K white gold, as it is even more durable and hypoallergenic. This means people who are sensitive to the nickel in 18K white gold won’t have this problem with platinum. But for JannPaul, they remove the nickel content in their 18K white gold. So if you have sensitive skin, not to worry! For a stand out factor, you can mix your band to have both rose and white gold too. To know more about jewelry metals, click here.
2. Choose your Prongs
The prongs holds the diamond on your ring, and JannPaul offers you various prong designs to choose from. They even have heart-shaped prongs, which is extremely intricate. Â
3. Choose your Diamond
If you / your girlfriend are a fan of fancy cuts (like we are), you’ll be happy to know that you don’t have to pay that much more to be unique. The commercial outlets are strongly focused on round (brilliant) shaped diamonds, and therefore other fancy cuts (if even available) will cost you more. But at JannPaul, they have a huge variety of diamond shapes that will blow you away. Choose between the round brilliant cut, square princess, cushion, marquise, heart, kite-shaped, and many more. Casey even showed us their recently patented octagon design which has 88 facets and the shine will simply take you away.
A pear-shaped diamond caught our eye and we never looked back. When I was doing my research at other (commercial) jewellers, it was extremely difficult to find pear-shaped diamonds as they said it was very rare and they would have to specially source it for us. Their starting quote was at least 10K for the diamond itself.
4. Check your Diamond
To check out your diamond, JannPaul has all 3 scopes – Hearts and Arrows, Ideal & ASET scope for you to check out the symmetry and light return of your diamond. Other commercial retailers that I have visited usually only have the hearts and arrows viewer. Casey showed me how my diamond looks under different light settings as well. They have a machine that displays two sets of lighting. One is the LED lighting that most jewellers use in their display cabinets that makes every diamond emit their best sparkle. You can check out how your diamond looks like at its very best. The second would be the fluorescent lighting that will take out all the sparkle in a diamond so you can see the true clarity in the diamond.
5. Do you fancy a Gemstone?
If you want to add some colour to the ring, JannPaul has gemstones like sapphire or ruby that they can use to line your ring band. If you want the gemstone to take center stage, you can too!
6. Add more flair?
Whether it’s side diamonds on your ring band, or engravings (which is usually done at the last stage), you can simply request for it at JannPaul.
What’s next?
Once you have chosen the different parts of your ring, JannPaul will do up a 3D Render for you. This will include a 3D image of your ring design. Once confirmed, they will do up a wax model for you to see the dimensions and fit of your ring. The entire customization process takes about 4-6 weeks (subject to revisions).
Insider Tip!
If you are not satisfied with the current variations in the store, you can even show them a picture of a diamond ring from the internet for design inspiration! :) It was really nice that JannPaul does not put a limit to the number of revisions you can make to your ring. It really showed that they are extremely dedicated to providing the best service to their customers. After all, it’s a once in a lifetime purchase and it’s no surprise you want it to be perfect. Though I do suggest not to have too many revisions as it will take much longer for your ring to be ready. If you feel overwhelmed by the process of customization, let me assure you that the staff at JannPaul will guide you through the entire process like they did for me. They will ask you questions and find out whether you prefer a more classic or unique design. They will narrow down your options based on your preferences.
The Bottom Note
Through my experience shopping both at JannPaul and other retailers, I must say I’m extremely impressed by JannPaul’s standard of service and knowledge that they shared with us. They are extremely customer-orientated in their approach, and I believe this is the key to their roaring success today. And last of all, here’s our very own pear-shaped diamond ring, and a picture of the actual proposal! :)
