1. AIA Mum2Baby Protect Maternity Insurance

maternity insurance - mum2babyBest for lifelong protection for your baby

Starting off our list is what many moms consider to be the best plan for lifelong protection for their babies, AIA’s Mum2Baby Protect Maternity Insurance. For mothers, it protects against pregnancy complications, medical negligence, hospitalization care for up to 30 days, major ICU hospitalization, as well as death from these conditions. While for babies, it covers congenital diseases and hospitalization in the event of any diagnosis.

Mum2Baby Protect initially covers 13 weeks of pregnancy until 3 years of the baby’s life, however, you may opt to transfer it to a lifelong policy upon your baby’s birth, regardless of his/her health condition at that time. You can also choose to boost your coverage up to 5 times until the age of 65 or 75, protecting you against death and critical illnesses in your most vulnerable years. This plan might be a bit steep compared to other plans, but it is a good investment option that guarantees you a stable cash value you have accumulated.

Like AIA, Manulife’s ReadyMummy Maternity Insurance covers specific complications, conditions, and illnesses from 13 months of pregnancy until 3 years of the child’s life. With this particular plan, 14 pregnancy complications and 24 congenital illnesses are fully insured, including 100% protection against death and a daily cash benefit of 1% of the sum insured for each day spent at the hospital for up to 30 days. They also offer an option to upgrade to other Manulife plans within 90 days from the child’s birth. But what truly sets this plan apart is the addition of psychotherapy treatment during and after pregnancy to help mothers with their mental wellness, covering 10% of the sum insured.

Additionally, ReadyMummy is also a great insurance plan for mothers who are expecting through Assisted Conception Procedures like In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), and Intracervical Insemination (ICI), as they cover these types of pregnancies for an additional premium.  Best for affordable premiums

This plan from Great Eastern also covers hospital care benefits where moms and newborns can receive up to S$200 per day for up to 30 days.  They also understand that sudden changes are inevitable thus they give up to 90 days to upgrade to a regular premium whole life plan, endowment plan or investment-linked plan that covers for death, TPD and critical illnesses, which you can avail of using a S$108 voucher to offset the initial premium.
