Best for impressive specifications

Announced in Nov 2019, the Xiaomi Note 10 is the best Xiaomi phone in Singapore. It contains the world’s first 108MP Penta camera, a 6.47″ 3D curved AMOLED display, a 5,260mAh (typ) high-capacity battery, a responsive in-screen fingerprint sensor, and an in-box 30W fast charge. If you want to dream big with your smartphone, the 108MP camera allows you to snap a photo of up to 12032 x 9024 pixels (that’s as high as 4K!). Furthermore, its super large image sensor of 1/1.33″ is said to surpass most digital cameras. Supercharge your photography and social media experience with its 20MP ultra-wide-angle, 32MP selfie camera, 12MP portrait camera, maco setting, vlog mode, and even night mode!

The sleek device is protected by Corning Gorilla glass both front and back, ensuring attractive toughness. Armed with a beautiful AMOLED display, it gives you an HDR10 excellent video contrast and GHD+ clearer screen to view your streaming media. It also has a reading mode 2.0 for you to read your e-books without straining your eyes. Backed by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 730G chip, your multitasking and gaming experience will be heightened. Last but not least, it is also one of the advanced phones that still comes with the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack which I much appreciate for plugging in a microphone.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 (6+128GB) now retails for $699 and the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro (8+256GB) for $799, which is an insane value compared to other phones in the market right now. The difference between the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro is the RAM and storage difference. Spending an extra $100 to double up the storage can be quite good considering you will be taking probably a million photos with your new phone. Compare the specifications here.

Redmi is Xiaomi’s budget series, but the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S is nothing close to “entry-level”. Lastly, the headliner for the Redmi Note 9 Pro) is its massive 5020mAh battery (larger than Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5,000mAh battery), which has been crowned by Cnet with the “2020 battery life crown“. Xiaomi phoen singapore Mi 9T Pro

Best for gaming

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro is “performance in full“. Backed with a Snapdragon 855 processor, it delivers an excellent mobile gaming experience with good graphics, performance, and 4G/5G connectivity. The Snapdragon 855 is a powerful chipset that can support the most demanding of users. Other phones that use the Snapdragon 855 are the Google Pixel 4 (and XL), Samsung S10, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, all of which are priced at double the price when compared with the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro.

Camera-wise, it comes with a 48MP, AI rear triple camera, coupled with a 20MP innovative pop-up selfie camera that just looks cool to use. The 6.39″ AMOLED full-screen display and 4-sided curved 3D curved back present a great media streaming experience and ergonomic hand usage. All of the above summarize to give you a powerful, quality mobile phone experience, that is iconic of Xiaomi phones in Singapore – undisputed in terms of price. You can consider the cheaper Mi 9T, but the Pro is hands down the better phone and worth the $100+ top-up.

4. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro

Xiaomi phones singapore Redmi Note 8 Pro

Just to illustrate how popular this phone is, Xiaomi just celebrated selling over 30 million of the Redmi Note 8 phones. On hindsight, perhaps that should come as little surprise, considering it has an affordable price tag (which places it in the budget phone category) but delivers you impressive features that throw it into the leagues of decent mid-range phones. Its 64MP quad-camera, a 6.53″ FHD+ dot drop display, and a big 4,500mAh battery deliver an overall powerful smartphone performance at an unbelievable price. Even TechRadar says “no, the price isn’t an error“.

Design and display wise, while it might be a bit heavy and chunky, it is covered with a glass backing which is uncommon for budget-priced phones (they are mostly plastic-backed to save on cost).  It has a big 6.53” screen with a 1080 x 2340 LCD display that is great for viewing content. And if you love taking selfies, the front 20MP selfie camera does a pretty good job of that. The 4,500mAh battery is also substantial to support one and a half days of normal usage. While the MediaTek Helio G90T processor isn’t anything spectacular, the 6GB RAM is definitely a big bonus, and you can choose to have 64GB or 128 GB of storage. Overall, the phone passes off well as a mid-ranger, that is if you didn’t notice the price.

Why buy this Xiaomi phone in Singapore:
  • A budget-priced phone that passes off well as a mid-range
  • The generous battery of 4,500mAh gives you 1.5 days of usage
  • Great performance at an unbelievably low price

5. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8

Redmi Note 8

Priced at about $150 cheaper, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 device but works on a different processor compared with the Redmi Note 8 Pro. It utilises a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor instead of the MediaTek Helio G90T processor on the Mi Note 8 Pro. The RAM is smaller at 4GB (vs 6GB), battery smaller at 4,000mAh (vs 4,500mAh), but overall this is a Xiaomi phone in Singapore that works pretty decently. Usually, the pro versions are not a massive upgrade over the regular ones. But for Redmi Note 8, the difference is pretty big and this extends to the look as well. The Redmi Note 8 has the quad-camera sitting on the left side whereas the Pro has them sitting in the middle. The screen size is also at 6.39″ (vs 6.53″).

For the camera, apart from the primary 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor (vs 64MP), and the 13MP image selfie sensor (vs 20MP), the rest of the specifications stands similar to the Pro – 2MP depth sensor, 8MP Ultra Wide Lens, and 2MP Maco Lens. While I’d say the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is definitely worth paying slightly more for, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 still does a pretty decent job for the price point. Hence it’s still on the list, for those of you who are really on a tight budget. You can get the Redmi Note 8 in 64GB and opt between the alluring colours of Neptune Blue, Space Black, and Moonlight White.

Why buy this Xiaomi phone in Singapore:
  • Cheaper than the Redmi Note 8 Pro (about $150 more)
  • Overall a decent phone at a cheap price

6. Xiaomi Redmi 8

Redmi 8

Cheapest Xiaomi Phone on this list

The specifications include a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ octa-core processor, a 12MP + 2MP AI dual camera, a 5,000mAh battery that supports a quick Charge 3.0 18W charge, 6.22” HD+ Dot Drop display, all of which add up to be pretty generous at that budget price. With all-round high-quality construction with all-day battery life and good cameras for its price, there’s nothing much to complain about here. Moreover, it also has facial unlock and fingerprint recognition. Available with 64GB storage and also 32GB.
