2. One-Bedroom Rainforest Villa, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve - Best Luxury Hotel Villas in Bali

Discover serenity at the cultural heart of Bali with Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Named after the Sanskrit for ‘temple’, this 5-star resort hotel is truly a luxurious sanctuary. Located amidst the lush rainforest of Ubud, with uninterrupted rainforest, rice paddy, and Ayung river views within your reach, Mandapa is undoubtedly the perfect place to relax while in Bali.

Luxurious hotel service at its finest

Just recently, our family stayed in the resort’s One Bedroom Pool Villa, and to say that our experience there was amazing would be simply an understatement. The villa had a majestic view of Ubud’s rainforests and rice paddies. Plus, we had our very own outdoor pool, which was so relaxing to swim at – our little Ally especially loved splashing around! Inside the villa was just as beautiful as the outside; we truly appreciated all the exquisite details they put into the villa’s interiors. Imagine an elegant bathroom and tub, marble countertops, and wooden sinks with rose gold faucets. Perhaps, we can use these as inspiration for our dream Bali villa in the future.

Right off the bat, we can tell how good management is with the way the staff seem to enjoy their work. Everyone from the tour guide Rina at Mandapa Club to the buggy driver to the spa masseuse made our experience extra delightful. Mandapa also provided our very own butler, Tapsir, who communicated with us via Whatsapp for the ultimate convenience. He even went out of his way to buy diapers for our kiddos, just so we can spend more quality time together. With how dedicated and attentive the staff were, it felt like we were a part of their lovely family. Honestly, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is probably the best out of all the luxury hotels we have stayed in before. The crème de la crème, indeed.

Take your taste buds for a gastronomic adventure

Another thing that makes Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve the best is the array of delectable dishes that you can try while staying there. Our mornings started off with a la carte meals and buffet options of egg and caviar, foie gras cocotte, and Mandapa Crab Benedict. Really divine!

For dinner, the resort boasts four dining destinations, all immersed in nature for the most delightful experience. Not only will you enjoy the fantastic food prepared by the resort’s talented chefs, but also get to savour every bite with a mesmerising view. Our personal favourite, however, would have to be Sawah Terrace.

At Sawah Terrace, experience fine dining that captures the culinary essence of Ubud while enjoying the river and tropical views. Sawah Terrace offers all sorts of Indonesian delicacies from Soto Udang Pesmol with broth that packs a punch to Iga Babi Bakar with meat so tender it falls off the bone. We love pairing these with fragrant Nasi Bakar Ayam and our choice of seafood Udang Larang Bakar. All these dishes were already super delicious, but the best of the lot would be the “Kiwami” Wagyu Ribeye MB9+ that we had via in-room dining. With its perfect meat-to-fat ratio and buttery smoothness, we must say that this beef is worth every dollar. Definitely the best beef we have ever tasted!

Amenities to get you deep into Bali’s culture and nature

Your palate will not be the only thing experiencing Bali. While bicycles are around to rent for leisurely strolls, there are also tours around the hills, villages, and temples via their vintage VW convertibles. The resort can even arrange visits to nearby attractions like the Ubud Temple and Mount Batur. If you prefer just staying in, you are in luck as Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve has plenty of spots for you to see and activities for you to enjoy. You can also take a stroll in the rice fields, which is perfect for taking Instagram-worthy photos.

And if you have kids, you can join them at Mandapa Camp, where you can meet farm animals up close. Our little Ally adored all the little ducks and cute cows (Manda and Dapa) that were just roaming around. On top of the farm, Mandapa Camp also helps little explorers learn new skills and the culture through arts, music, and games. Ally had tons of fun playing with all the books and toys she could get her hands on!

When all the action was done, we were able to relax and rejuvenate ourselves at the riverfront Mandapa Spa. From relaxing skin-soothing rituals to stress-relieving massages, Mandapa Spa is guaranteed to provide guests with a deeply personal and sublime connection to body, mind, and spirit. We chose their signature Mepijet Massage which really relieved our aching bodies.

All in all, staying in Mandapa is one experience we highly recommend for anyone going to Bali.

3. One-Bedroom Pool Villa, Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach

Chic poolside daybed swing

Experience contemporary living in Bali’s most stylish neighbourhood

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant and trendy Seminyak neighbourhood, Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach promises a stay like no other. This 5-star haven is not just a hotel – it is a gateway to a whole new world. Outside, a myriad of eclectic boutiques, international fashion houses, stylish galleries, hip bars, and irresistible restaurants await for you to explore. Inside the hotel is just as captivating! Every corner exudes a distinctive charm and visual appeal, so you can take IG-worthy shots from almost anywhere.

IG-worthy backdrops all over the hotel

On our latest visit to Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach, our family stayed in a One-Bedroom Pool Villa (Villa 5015), which was built within the lush enclave under palm trees inspired by the Balinese traditional village or Banjar. It is a perfect hideaway home for couples, families, or friends looking for more privacy on a holiday. The villa boasts a spacious bedroom with an oversized spa-inspired bathroom, a generous living room, and a dedicated dining pavilion. However, the private pool was undoubtedly the main highlight. Our little ones loved frolicking around it while we lounged on the comfortable and luxurious daybed swing by the pool.

In addition to the private pool, we also appreciated the large and comfy bed in our bedroom. It was probably one of the best beds we have ever experienced! And it was made even better by body pillows from the hotel’s dedicated pillow menu. Not many 5-star resorts have this so it is a definitely big plus for us, and they offered plenty of varieties too!

Superior level of care from Bali’s friendly neighbourhood hosts

Comfortable luxury hotel villa aside, our stay was made extremely special by the amazing staff from Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach. The hotel staff, whom they refer to as neighbourhood hosts, treated us so well; our dedicated butlers even went the extra mile by helping us with our diaper delivery from Gojek to arranging laundry services for us. They even surprised us with a fantastic tumbler as a thoughtful welcome gift! Read more about our lovely experience at the hotel here

The chefs at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach are also extremely praise-worthy. Their culinary skills are incredible! Breakfast at Makase was especially great, with our top picks being the Chawanmushi (Japanese egg custard), Ayam bakar (charcoal-grilled chicken), and Pisang goreng (crispy fried banana with honey). In addition to the breakfast ala carte menu, there is also a buffet with a unique create-your-own-fried-rice section which was both interesting and unique.

4. Two Bedroom Family Club Villa, Tanah Gajah, A Resort By Hadiprana

Tanah Gajah, A Resort By Hadiprana - Best Luxury Hotel Villas in Bali

A luxurious stay in the midst of a masterpiece

Once the former estate of renowned art collector Hendra Hadripana, Tanah Gajah, A Resort by Hadiprana sits among a five-hectare space of rolling lush hills and rice fields right outside the magical Ubud. The resort boasts 20 art-filled units decked with original pieces from Hadriprana’s collection, which all come with plush queen-sized beds, cosy living areas, hand-crafted furniture and mesmerising views. Though if you are staying with the entire family, what we recommend is the Two Bedroom Club Family Pool Villa, a one-of-a-kind state-of-the-art, spacious flat-level family villa. We stayed here just recently, and the beauty and privacy it offers are just perfect. The living room was massive, and there was even a huge comfy daybed that our little ones loved to relax on.

Top-rated, mouthwatering Omakase experience

The artistry does not stop there as you take in a feast for the senses at the Tempayan. Designed after the Balinese pavilion ‘wantilan’, this restaurant offers an airy dining room with panoramic views of the rice paddies . The food is just as amazing as the ambience – all thanks to Executive Chef Dean Nor and his 17 years of professional culinary experience. We have to admit, the entire experience was a steal, as it was quite rare to experience an Omakase with such top-tier quality at  this price point. The fact that Chef Dean was super nice was just the cherry on top! He made sure to guide us in every step of our 5-course dinner, which really brought out the best in every bite.

Dishes from our incredible five-course Omakase experience

Everything was delicious; it felt like there were fireworks of flavours in our mouths. From Joce’s favourite starter, the Cured Sea Bass with Smoked Lumpfish Caviar and Citrus Dressing, to the Japanese Tuna Salad (my favourite dish of the night) and the very succulent Organic Free Range Peking Duck with sous vide organic egg yolk so smooth that it acted like butter spread for the duck. The star of the show, however, was Chef Dean’s ultimate Wagyu Short Ribs with Truffle Mash. It was so packed with flavour – really perfect for beef lovers, we could not help ourselves but get another bowl of mash! If this experience makes you fall in love with food further, then you can take cooking classes with Chef Dean himself and prepare your own scrumptious lunch.

Family-friendly destination

Aside from food, there are plenty of other opportunities to get a taste of Bali while at Tanah Gajah. Enjoy a floating breakfast by the pool, grab a bento box for a picnic lunch with some refreshing young coconut drinks, indulge in an afternoon tea by the rice paddies, and a whole lot more.  Our favourite, though, would be the hot air balloon experience at sunset. Through this, you will get to take in the mesmerising Ubud views from a whole new perspective, which is just perfect for couples on a honeymoon and families alike. After the ride, enjoy free-flow cocktails from 6 to 7 pm, in which you can choose from four specially crafted cocktails. Do note that some drinks were quite strong as they are very generous with the hard liquor.

And since Tanah Gajah was huge, there were other scenic spots as well. Our little Ally loved roaming around the resort, and we also had a relaxing time feeding the family of Dutch and Australian swans by the lotus pond. To end the day, you can spend the evening watching Balinese Kecak and fire dance performances by one of the local dance troupes at the resort’s candle-lit outdoor amphitheatre.

Overall, Tanah Gajah, a Resort by Hadiprana was amazing. Our entire family had loads of fun, and the experiences were unique and differentiated from many other resorts. Highly recommend you to experience this for yourselves!

5. Pool Villa, Alila Villas Uluwatu

Alila Villas Uluwatu Hotel Villa Bali
Luxury Hotel Villa in Bali – Alila Villas Uluwatu

Situated on a clifftop plateau along the southern coastline of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, Alila Villas Uluwatu offers incredibly dramatic views of the Indian Ocean, providing the perfect escape in a tropical paradise. The entire hotel resort is designed by award-winning Singapore architectural firm WOHA. So, its architecture seamlessly flows from inside to outside, blending in with the surrounding natural environment. This then makes the resort’s design look really luxurious, at the same time, environmentally sustainable.

In fact, Alila Villas Uluwatu is the first-ever resort in Indonesia to receive the highest level of certification for its green initiatives, which include the use of local and recycled materials, water conservation scheme with soaks and rain gardens, a Zero Waste Policy, an organic garden, and a whole lot more. Alila also supports the R.O.L.E. Foundation and other worthy causes, so hopefully, if you do stay here in the future, please do consider donating to support. Read more about Alila’s commitment to sustainable tourism here.

World-class and professional service

The 1-Bedroom Pool Villa we stayed in was really modern and lovely, but what we appreciated the most is how it is very baby-friendly. There were loads of baby amenities inside such as a Pigeon steam steriliser, a baby playmat, a baby hooded towel, a baby potty, a baby bathtub, and a baby high chair for feeding – you get the idea. Ally even had her own adorable little bathrobe and tiny bathroom slippers, which we really loved.

Stunning view from the reception area

On top of that, the staff’s service was great. You can see that they are really well-trained as they delivered a high level of consistency from f&b to housekeeping to reception. Honestly, the check-in process we experienced was unlike any other. It was the first time we got a 5-minute shoulder massage (and probably the best one I’ve ever gotten!) upon check-in and we even had face mist to freshen up ourselves. We also felt welcomed to heaven because the reception area was all white and overlooked the endless sea. The staff was all dressed in white, too. A grand welcome indeed! Then, once we got into our hotel villa, we were further welcomed with a gorgeous and delicious raspberry cheesecake, as well as a mocktail that we got to mix ourselves.

Exquisitely crafted Indonesian and Western dishes

Just like the welcome food, we thoroughly enjoyed every dish we had in the resort. To say that the food is incredible is simply an understatement since Alila Villas had the best food standards out of all the ones we tried during our recent Bali trip. We wished we could have stayed longer because we nearly ran out of stomach space trying to try everything!

Here at Alila Villas, even a simple prawn Aglio olio and grilled black cod were cooked with such finesse. The best of the lot, though, was the pork ribs served at a restaurant called The Warung, which presented exquisitely crafted dishes from a traditional Indonesian and Balinese fare. We enjoyed every bite of that incredible dish, which was generously served with 12 different condiments (sambal, spices, and more).

Delectable Indonesian spread from The Warung

Breakfast food was good as well; they have 3 different menus so you will not get tired of eating the same thing every morning. We highly recommend the superfood smoothies and the farmer’s blend drinks, which all looked too healthy but were actually really good. Make sure to try their specialty hot beverages like Earl Grey Charcoal Latte and Pandan Latte. Their version of avocado toast and truffle buns were also pretty incredible.

Luxurious cliff-edge amenities

For the best stay possible, we suggest that you try the sublime artisanal cocktails at the resort’s Sunset Cabana Bar, which was perched on a very high cliff whilst overlooking the sea. The Umadori and Segara cocktails there were just gorgeous – the perfect match for the insane aerial view of the sea below. Also, just like the bar’s name, make sure that you stay here just in time for sunset. You can see all kinds of purple and pink hues enveloping the entire sky. Also, you can actually hold an intimate wedding here!  If not a fan of cocktails, you may also head over to Alila’s very own Cliff Edge Spa Cabana for the ultimate relaxation.

Incredible sunset from the bar (Source)

Aside from dining, Alila Villas Uluwatu offers many other unique experiences or ‘journeys’ for guests to enjoy. We chose Journey to You, which was a half-day journey in Spa Alila, consisting of a 90-minute massage, body scrub, warm aromatic bubble bath, Alila Facial or manicure or pedicure, and dinner at The Warung. Overall, our stay at Alila Villas Ulutawu was fantastic, and we highly recommend it the next time you visit Bali.

6. Luxury Ocean View Villa, The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali

The Oberoi Beach Resort Best Luxury Hotel Villa Bali
Luxury Hotel Villa in Bali – The Oberoi Beach Resort

Located on the sophisticated and fashionable Seminyak beach, The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali is guaranteed to bring you the peace and serenity you are looking for in a Bali getaway. Spread across fifteen acres of lush, breathtaking tropical gardens, this 5-star resort-hotel is home to some of Bali’s most stylish hotel villas, complete with traditional thatched roofs, restaurants serving up the most delectable cuisines on the island, a vast, flat beach, and a whole lot more. What’s more, the incredible beach right outside The Oberoi becomes even more magical once the sun sets. It is a really wonderful place to spend your evenings!

One of the many surreal sunsets we saw at the beach right outside The Oberoi
Most relaxing getaway in a traditional thatched Bali villa
MJ and Baby Ally

Just recently, our family stayed in Villa 206, a Luxury Ocean View Villa with a private pool. It is one of the closest villas to the beach entrance and the resort’s temperature-controlled main pool. For a more Bali vibe, the villa is topped with a traditional thatched roof and comes complete with a very luxurious yet exotic sunken marble bath, offering views of a private, walled, tropical garden for the ultimate serenity. But if you really want to feel relaxed, head over to The Oberoi’s unique spas to try some of their signature spa treatments. I had a Balinese massage while Joce had a facial and head massage, and the whole experience was amazing!

Meanwhile, the interior includes a harmonious fusion of natural colour palettes, traditional design and contemporary technologies. We really love how they maximised natural light in creating these villas, offering an authentic, relaxing ambience. The large canopied bed also looked very welcoming! Furthermore, special pillows are available upon request. We chose the medium firm supreme fibre comfort pillow, which worked well with the duck down pillow. Outside, a large terrace, a private pool and an alfresco dining pavilion provide ample opportunity to relax.

A glimpse of Bali’s culture

At The Oberoi, you will feel the warm hospitality of every Balinese. From the moment we arrived, all the hotel staff were incredible and genuine from the heart. Special thanks to Wulan who served us our afternoon tea; she even personally got our baby girl a bunny toy as a present! We also like how they wear traditional dresses, ensuring an impeccable Oberoi service.

With some of Oberoi’s incredible staff

What also sets this resort apart is its very own natural amphitheatre, where guests can enjoy Gamelan music and classical Balinese dance performances amidst the starry night sky and with the sound of crashing waves nearby. The show usually comes with a sumptuous candlelit dinner, but no worries if you ever missed out on the show since The Oberoi offers a total of 3 dining options to satisfy your hunger.

World-class cuisine served with breathtaking views

We had a 3-course dinner at Kura Kura restaurant, an open-air thatched pavilion overlooking lotus ponds. The restaurant’s vibe is utterly romantic, and guests may be even serenaded with traditional ‘Angklung’ music and a variety of Balinese musical troupes. The food was just as amazing – I had the seared beef tenderloin Harvey while Joce had the pan-seared Japanese Black cod. Both dishes were seared to perfection and so delicious that we finished our meal in no time! The chef also gave us 2 complimentary dishes on top of the actual courses, a foie grass creme brulee and pickled beetroot, which we also thoroughly enjoyed.

Breakfast with a view

We finished the date with chocolate lava cake and tiramisu, the perfect desserts for a sweet tooth couple like us! If you’d like to have more sweets, we highly suggest that you drop by the resort’s very charming Kayu Bar. They also serve daily afternoon tea and coffee, not to mention the amazing tropical cocktails you can get at night! In the morning, we had our breakfast in the Frangipani Cafe, where we enjoyed both the food and the stunning ocean view. Special thanks to Muka and Mei, as they paid special attention to Baby Ally and got her avocados, porridge with boiled chicken, and toast which she loved.

Overall, we must say that The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali is a perfect place for an idyllic and relaxing getaway! Especially the beach right outside The Oberoi, I would definitely stay there again just to admire the magical sunsets every evening.

7. Soka, HOSHINOYA Bali

HOSHINOYA Bali - Best Luxury Villas
Luxury Hotel Villa in Bali – HOSHINOYA

Hidden Balinese retreat within a mystical river valley

Enveloped by the lush green hills of Ubud, the centre of Bali’s culture and art, HOSHINOYA Bali overlooks the mystical Pakerisan River that appears in Balinese mythology. Designed like a traditional Balinese village, all villas in this resort are connected by water, with 3 beautiful canal-like pools situated right in the middle. Every villa has direct access to the pool, each with a private section that juts over the water wherein you can stay and enjoy the gentle waterside winds that pass through.

We stayed in a Soka, a 2-storey garden pool villa that offered the utmost privacy for our entire family. Inside is a combination of beautiful Bali furniture and luxurious Japanese minimalism, but what really caught our eyes were the wall hangings with traditional wood carvings. Each carving is intricately done by master artisans on the island, telling a story related either to Ubud’s nature or its folklore. We also loved the view from the villa’s 2nd level, but if you prefer to admire the majestic river valleys much closer, we highly recommend staying in the Jalak, a garden pool villa with a wide, winding balcony.

MJ and Baby Ally with the traditional wood carvings
Gastronomic adventure amidst spectacular jungle view

As much as we enjoyed the resort’s overall atmosphere, nothing beats the lush forest view paired with scrumptious dishes. HOSHINOYA Bali’s spacious, open-air restaurant offers a gastronomic fare of French, Balinese and Japanese delicacies, and the best thing to do here is to try to have a taste of everything through a 10-course dinner. We absolutely loved the Gently Sauteed Bigfin Reel Squid, Slowly Cooked Salmon with Cucumber Sauce, and the Sushi Mittsu – definitely a gastronomic adventure for our tastebuds

And since you are already in Bali, make sure that you try all the Indonesian dishes offered in the resort. In fact, the Indonesian helper that we brought on the trip with us said that the Nasi goreng she had at HOSHINOYA was one of the best ones she has ever eaten. If they impress a local, then the dishes must be really good! You may also enjoy a special Indonesian set for breakfast at one of the resort’s unique Air Gazebo, which is probably the most IG-worthy date spot in the entirety of HOSHINOYA Bali.

MJ at an Air Gazebo
Wide array of activities

Aside from dining and relaxing, there are so many things you can do in the resort. There is a Balinese dance performance, welcome matcha, canang (Balinese offering), a crafts workshop, and our favourite – a Batik workshop. Mandi, one of their staff who was there since the opening of the hotel in 2017, introduced us to the entirety of Batik making process. It was pretty fun learning how to use the wax to outline the patterns, and then colour it with paints of different colours. This workshop is probably one of the most fun activities we have experienced on our whole Bali trip! You can even take your Batik masterpiece home as a souvenir!

With Mandi and our Batik masterpieces

A hilltop resort where Balinese culture and Japanese architecture collide, HOSHINOYA is definitely one of the best places to stay. Our experience there was unlike any other; from the ambience to the food to the villas – everything was just perfect!

8. Deluxe Terrace Villa, Viceroy Bali

Viceroy Hotel Villa Bali
Luxury Hotel Villa in Bali – Viceroy

Poised on a ridge overlooking the verdant Valley of the Kings, Viceroy Bali offers the ultimate private retreat for every guest. Though just a short 10 minutes away from the thriving culture and arts centre of Ubud, its location feels like you are transported into another world. A place where time seems to slow down, this award-winning luxury resort is definitely one of the best places to reconnect with nature and relax and renew in utter tranquillity. In fact, it was just recognised recently by Tripadvisor as one of the Top 10 Hotels in Asia this 2022!

Viceroy Bali is also the only hotel resort in Ubud with its own helipad, so if you want to save time, you can take a 15-min helicopter ride from Ngurah Rai International Airport straight to the resort, instead of a 1-hour car journey.

Family-managed luxury resort offering impeccable service

From the gorgeous infinity pool (perfect for IG-shots!) overlooking the spectacular jungle ravine to the romantic villas offering absolute privacy, every detail of this tropical haven has been carefully assembled to give guests an extraordinary expression of world-class luxury. The resort is really spacious and hilly, so we like how they provide a golf buggy in case you need to go anywhere far, though walking around the resort during the evening was just as lovely. There’s also a huge lawn where baby Ally loved to roam about – the perfect spot for a photoshoot as well.

Baby Ally posing happily on the beautiful lawn
Baby Ally posing happily on the beautiful lawn

Beyond its luxurious amenities and beautiful location, what truly sets Viceroy Bali apart is the passionate service and attention to detail offered to every guest. The resort is actually family-owned and managed (with some of them present on site daily!), so the intimate and friendly ambience is felt throughout the resort. In fact, it has over 170 staff for just 40 pool villas, so you can be really sure that all your needs are well taken care of. The lovely staff took good care of our Baby Ally during breakfast, providing her with plain porridge with boiled chicken, steamed broccoli and carrots, and avocadoes, which we really appreciated.

Contemporary Balinese-style pool villas

Viceroy Hotel Bali provided us with a Deluxe Terrace Villa during our stay, a luxurious villa that integrates Balinese architecture seamlessly. The villa even comes with a heated infinity-edge pool and a traditional outdoor balé seating area for complete relaxation. The pool is perfect for babies, little kiddos, and those with sensitive skin as it is treated with the more effective and sustainable hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine. Baby Ally had a blast in our private pool, and while she enjoyed herself there, we loved the backdrop of the pool which consisted of a valley of coconut trees amongst the forest. Really, really gorgeous!

Baby Ally in the H2O2 -treated pool

Meanwhile, the inside of the villa consisted of a generous living space and a large marble bathroom fitted with luxury amenities such as a 30cm rain shower and twin vanities. The bed was huge and comfortable, with pillows that were very plush. We are a couple of side sleepers, so we really love how the pillows are supportive for us, which are unlike the usual down pillows that other hotels provide.

MJ and Baby Ally in the spacious bed
One of Bali’s pre-eminent dining destinations

As for the food options…where do I begin? Viceroy Bali offers Bali’s fine dining at its best, thanks to the incredible Apéritif Restaurant. More than just the delish meals, the restaurant boasts a stunning 1920s colonial-style interior that makes the best photos, complete with a lovely wine cellar. We had the 6-course degustation menu there, which was quite the gastronomic adventure for our tastebuds. The course began with a cocktail/mocktail experience in which the drinks were made right in front of us. The Nightshade Negroni and Apero Cosmo were so good!

Apéritif Restaurant

For the main dishes, our favourites were the Chawanmushi and Tokusen Wagyu Carpaccio (this was quite a surprise since I don’t really fancy Carpaccio), which arrived at our table via trolleys. Do also give Venison Wellington a shot, as I believe that it can hold its ground against Gordon Ramsay’s renowned Beef Wellington. The restaurant staff even offered me 10 steak knives to choose from – talk about fine dining, indeed! For the last course, we were brought to the bar where another trolley of desserts was presented to us. The bar was amazing and offers an extensive variety of top-quality cocktails to choose from. There was also an outdoor terrace beyond the bar that offers impressive views of Mt. Agung on a clear day.

Delicious spread of desserts at the bar

Overall, the whole fine dining experience was enjoyable, with loads of photo opportunities! Breakfast at Cascades Restaurant was also wonderful. A lovely spread of food combined with the same wonderful valley view? It’s hard to say no! We highly recommend that you try the Balinese Benedict, a good twist on the classic Eggs Benedict with Balinese corn fritter and dried beef. Belgian waffles were thin, crispy, and delicious, too!

9. Sound of the Sea Villa

Sound of the Sea Hotel Villa Bali
Luxury Hotel Villa in Bali – Sound of the Sea

Spacious beachfront private retreat by the sea

Conceived like a boutique hotel, Sound of the Sea Villa is a newly-renovated luxurious beachfront villa situated in an unspoilt fishing community near Canggu, Bali. With 6 bedrooms (a rarity in Bali), it is ideal for a large family or group of friends. Among all the bedrooms, though all beautifully appointed, the best is probably the beachfront-facing, whereby you can literally listen to the sound of the sea all night long

Of course, one of the best parts of staying at a beachfront villa is having easy access to the beach itself. The gorgeous black beach has huge waves almost throughout the entire day – even bigger than those you can see in the Canggu region – so advanced surfers will definitely love the vibes here! What’s more, is that the villa comes with a huge lawn and garden where you can hold outdoor games, parties, corporate events, and even weddings. Our baby Ally really loved the place as she was able to roam about happily, especially since she just started to learn how to walk. There’s even a tennis court as well for tennis enthusiasts and older kids!

Gorgeous modern amenities

A private hotel villa experience is made even better when you have your own swimming pool. Here at Sound of the Sea Villa, it’s not just a regular pool, but a gorgeous 20-meter beachfront infinity pool. It is actually long enough for me to do some laps! There is also a warm jacuzzi in front of the infinity pool in case you want to relax, as well as a shaded kids pool for the little ones.

We also loved the villa’s newly renovated interiors, especially the lounge and pool area; it looked really fresh and stylish! The villa is decorated in earthy tones and punches of red, with a careful mix of traditional furniture and modern designs. Anywhere is a great spot for an IG-worthy shot!

Delicious local dishes prepared by private chefs

Sound of the Sea Villa may not have its own restaurant, but you can also have a 5-star dining experience there, thanks to its highly experienced private chefs. We have enjoyed every single meal we had there, but if there’s a need to choose a favourite, we are highly recommending the local dishes. The Urab (Balinese vegetable dish) and Ayam Betutu (Balinese chicken dish) we had were so, so good! The huge lobster we had one time, as well as the prawns and beef tenderloin, were also very noteworthy.

Delectable spread of local Bali dishes

The amazing service we had extends to all the staff. All of them were truly wonderful and took really great care of us – from the cleaners to the waiting staff! Special mention to butlers Dodi and Dewa who were really attentive to our every need, making it a breeze to do anything we want in the villa. Marka, the villa manager, also provided excellent service.

Overall, Sound of the Sea Villa is the perfect choice for a large group of travellers looking to have the most relaxing and enjoyable Bali getaway. Refresh and recharge while staying in this private retreat, far away from the outside noise and closer to the sound of the sea. We’d definitely love to revisit it in the future! 10. Family Premier Villa, Four Seasons Resort Bali At Jimbaran Bay

Four Seasons Resort At Jimbaran Bay Hotel Villa Bali
Luxury Hotel Villa in Bali – Four Seasons Resort Bali At Jimbaran Bay

Sheltered in a calm bay along three miles of golden sand, Four Seasons Resort Bali At Jimbaran Bay is a luxurious resort that is authentically Bali. The entire resort is designed like an authentic Balinese village, complete with a majestic temple, courtyard style villas located within seven ‘village squares’, and beautiful tropical gardens cascading to the ocean.

Luxurious resort modelled like an authentic Balinese village

Authentic Balinese villas with a stunning view

On our recent stay at the resort, we had a complimentary upgrade to a Family Premier Villa, which we really appreciated. We brought our baby girl and helper along on our trip, so the added snug children’s room helped give us some privacy as a couple. Though the interiors of the hotel villa were undeniably beautiful, complete with authentic Balinese artworks and décor, the highlight of our accommodation would probably be the private pool. Even our baby Ally enjoyed herself very much while swimming! Also, from there, we got an incredible view of the beautiful Jimbaran Bay, plus a really surreal sunrise in the early mornings.

Baby Ally enjoying the incredible view from our villa

On top of the luxurious hotel villa, we really appreciated the superb service that we experienced in the resort. All staff were really warm and friendly; they welcomed us with unique carved coconuts, fresh towels, as well as adorable Four Seasons complimentary merchandise for our little baby girl (cute baby bibs, batik shorts and so on!). They even made our trip back to Singapore a breeze by assisting us with Covid Antigen tests and documentation. The nurse would even come to our villa directly to help us with the tests. What’s also interesting about Four Seasons, is that they have a mobile app that you can use to quickly communicate with the resort’s staff without having the need for an in-room phone. Really innovative!

Freshly-caught seafood from Jimbaran Bay

We were able to try various seafood dishes (from seafood-topped sourdough pizza to a sashimi platter!) that were freshly caught. This is thanks to the resort’s proximity to fishing villages and the historic Jimbaran Bay. In fact, we had a premium candlelit dinner in an intimate beachfront gazebo, where they provided us with Chilled Seafood and Sashimi Platter, 12–Hour Smoked Beef Short Ribs, Whole Baby Snapper that is cooked Jimbaran-style, and Watermelon and Heirloom Tomato Salad. The snapper especially was delicious! The lovely sunset view, gentle evening sea breeze, and soothing sounds of nearby crashing waves enhanced the experience.

Chilled Seafood and Sashimi Platter with Bamboo Lobster, Tiger Prawns, Salmon and more

The amazing dinner was made possible by Sundara, a sophisticated beach club slash dining destination found right inside the resort. Though the fun usually begins when the sun sets, Sundara Beach Club is also the perfect spot for all-day relaxation. You can just chill by one of the many day beds (perfect for getting a tan!) or refresh in Bali’s longest beachfront pool. For those travelling with kids, there is also a little baby pool and a dedicated indoor Kids Club with a little play area and slide inside it.

Bali’s first-ever Surround Sound Spa Suite

When it comes to wellness, Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay’s very own Healing Village Spa is the perfect place to be. A wellness portal that focuses on deep connections to Bali’s spiritual and physical wellness rituals, the spa offers innovative spa treatments that combine local wisdom with international training, including Bali’s first-ever ‘Surround Sound Spa Suite’ or Illume Room. The Celestial Light Ritual was probably the best spa experience of all the Bali luxury hotels we stayed at.

The unique Illume Room

Basically, the Illume Room works with the transformative effects of light, colour and sound for the ultimate balance and bliss. The massage started out with a warm bath, complete with chromotherapy lighting and resonant singing bowls, then I had to lay down on a high-quality German heated massage bed with crushed quartz crystals (tailored to my needs and focus areas). Special thanks to Wati, who has been a massage therapist for 12 years, for the really enjoyable and memorable experience. If you love heated massages, we highly suggest that you try out this one!
