1. HipVan Levitate Mattress ($1,499)
HipVan is a frequent mention on our site, for their stylish furniture and fuss-free online shopping experience. They also retail a range of premium yet affordable mattresses. While a King-sized mattress can easily set you back $3,000 elsewhere, Levitate, their best-seller and most premium pocketed spring model made of latex and memory foam retails at $1,499 (we use the Levitate!).
If Levitate is not in your price range, HipVan has 5 different mattress models to choose from – the cheapest being Snooze ($349 for king-sized), though it is just made of high-density foam without any pocket springs. HipVan designs and manufactures their mattresses in-house. They encase them with a breathable cooling Adaptive® fabric aimed at keeping you cool throughout the night – no thanks to Singapore’s humid weather! They are built to last, with durability and resilience in mind. You used to be able to try out their mattress at the HipVan Experience Store, but that is now closed.
What we like: The luxurious pillow top the Levitate comes with – it made me so excited to go to sleep when it first arrived. It feels like I’m sleeping at a hotel, every night.
HipVan mattresses come with a free 100-nights trial, free delivery, and a 12-year warranty.

2. Noa Mattress ($1,199)
Noa only sells only one model of medium firmness, universally designed for most body types and sleeping positions. It is a 7-layer hybrid mattress made of natural latex, cooling memory foam and supportive pocketed springs. The one layer of gel infused memory foam and individual pocket springs localise movement, to reduce partner disturbance. The Noa mattress is also made with certified eco materials. If you enjoy a firmer feel, it is likely you will enjoy the Noa. Reviews mention that back and side sleepers will enjoy this mattress the most. You can also easily pick up a bed frame to go with your Noa mattress.
What we like: The Noa mattress cover is made of Tencel®. I always choose Tencel for our bedsheets because it is soft and breathable. Tencel® repels odours, and has anti-dust mite and antibacterial properties. Best of all, it is environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Noa comes with a 100-nights free trial, free delivery, and a 15-year warranty. Designed in Canada and Made in China.

3. Haylee Foam Mattress ($849)
Local startup Haylee aims to provide sleepers with remarkable comfort at a good price point. Their King-sized foam mattress retails at $849, and you can get it delivered in 2 hours for free (by Lalamove)! The Haylee mattress is made of 5 layers – primarily a high-density foam that delivers support, eased by transition foam that helps with weight distribution and transfer. The Haylee Aeroflo and Cool Gel Memory foam then aim to provide good airflow, reduce mattress temperature and regulate body temperature. Overall, the mattress is said to be on the softer side.
What we like: The Haylee bamboo fiber knitted fabric mattress cover is easily removable and washable. It also has odour free, anti-fungal, anti-dust mite and anti-bacterial properties.

4. Baton Sleep Mattress ($780 or $1,150)
By Comfort Design Furniture, Baton Sleep is probably the only online mattress stores where you can try out their mattress in person. Baton Sleep offer sleepers two options, regular or hybrid, both pocketed spring based mattress. The regular ($780 for King-size) is combined with high-density foam and is more firm. The hybrid ($1,150) is an upscaled version of the regular. Instead of high-density foam, it uses pressure-relieving memory foam. Being thicker (28cm vs 23 cm), the Hybrid seems to be the more popular of the two. Though if you prefer your mattress firm, you might still pick the regular.
Baton Sleep is also CertiPUS-US certified, meaning it is free from harmful chemicals – very important because you are spending a third of your hours sleeping! We also like that the mattress cover is removable and washable.
What we like: The fact that no matter how much they jump on the bed, that Jenga (or wine glass) just doesn’t seem to fall. That is pretty impressive. So if you are a light sleeper, this might be a solution for you.
Approved by Xiaxue, Baton comes with a 30-night sleep trial, free delivery, and a 10-year warranty. Buy a bed frame and mattress bundle for a $100 discount.

How to finance your purchases?
Depending on the brands you purchase, the average cost of renovating your home is $50,000 – $60,000. Furniture and appliances like lights will probably set you back an extra $10,000 – $15,000. If you need to take up a loan to finance your purchase, renovation loans often do not give you the cash upfront, hence you may not be able to use it for tiles shopping, depending on whether your interior designer includes it in their quotation. If so, you might wish to consider a personal loan instead. Do note that personal loans have slightly higher interest rates than renovation loans, but you get the cash flexibility. Our friends at Singsaver have compiled the best personal loans for you to check out.

When shopping for your home, do keep in mind to prioritize and focus on the essentials first. Leave the ‘nice-to-haves’ for later, for it’s best to not spend beyond your means. When buying your lights, we also suggest using credit cards that give you rebates, so you get extra savings. Every little bit of savings can go a long way!
